The Magic function of the eye.

The first image she talked to me about, is one from the midnight sun in her memory after a trip to the pôle. Just like Sandor Krasna, the cameraman of Sans Soleil, Emmanuelle Nègre explores the world in search of images, in order to find landscapes seen somewhere in the bottom of a box of slides or on rolls of film. It is not a question here of bringing together the relics or phenomena observed during her journeys, but rather to recall them, to recollect pieces. She acts like a destroyer to better reconstitute, questioning the methods of cinema from the paranormal to the super eight through the flipbook. She accelerates or stops the scolling of the images to grab, to re experiment manually, creating as a crazy amateur scientist, new methods disrupting the balance of the visible to the invisible. This fascination for the image that carries Emmanuelle Nègre in all her pieces is most performed by the means of a machine. This machine does not proceed as a way of duplication but as the deformation of the image, a reconsideration of a shape, which becomes unique under the process of the artist. …
